Mount Device

Step 1

Close valve by turning handle perpendicular to the pipe.

Confirm valve handle nut is securely tightened.

Step 2

Open device clamps and align transmission fork to face in the same direction as the blue knobs.

Step 3

Center transmission fork over the ball valve, so that the handle fits between the prongs of the fork.

Push shutoff firmly onto the valve to seat the device securely around the ball valve and pipe.

The spring-loaded transmission fork will compress. If it does not compress, slightly adjust the transmission fork.

Step 4

Confirm the transmission fork seats properly over the nut securing the valve handle.

While holding down the device, twist the blue knobs to tighten clamps against the pipe.

Step 5

Look for the auxiliary port on the power cord, and remove the black silicone cover.

Firmly plug leak probe into the auxiliary port on the power cord, and confirm there are no gaps between the connection.

Step 6

Place leak probe in location where you want to detect water leaks.

Power on and Calibrate

Step 7

Connect power socket to DC adaptor and plug in to the wall power outlet. Device will power up and auto connect to the gateway. Upon power up, device will emit a double beep. LED will blink green once, then blink yellow while it connects to the gateway. Upon successful connection, LED blinks green twice and pulses red.

Step 8

Press LED button once to perform CLOSE calibration.

Device will start emitting beeps while LED alternates between green and red. Device will calibrate by moving the valve handle slightly then return the valve handle to the closed position. Device will emit a double beep upon successful completion and LED will pulse RED.

Step 9

Press LED button again to perform OPEN calibration.

Device will start emitting beeps while LED alternates between green and red. Device will turn the valve handle to open position. Device will emit a double beep upon successful completion and LED will pulse GREEN.

Inspect and confirm tightness of the clamps.

FAQ

The number of Water Shutoffs needed will depend on the size of the home/business and/or location of where the user wants to shut off water.

An average-sized single family home or small business will typically just need one Water Shutoff on the main water line.

The Water Shutoff is currently configured to operate the valve only with user input.  It will NOT automatically close or open the valve.

  • Meshify Protect™️ app is a core part of the experience. You can activate, monitor, and open/close the ball valve via the mobile app.

  • When the Defender Water Shutoff closes or opens the ball valve, the notification contacts assigned to your account via the Protect™️ App will be notified based on their order and contact preferences.

The Water Shutoff does not have battery backup and will not operate without power.  The device is designed to be easily removed in case of power loss and easily reinstalled.

The water shutoff is designed to work only with ball valves (which have a handle). Gate valves are not support.

With the adapter kit, the Water Shutoff can be installed on valves/pipes up to 2″. The Meshify Defender Shutoff does NOT support valves/pipes that are larger than 2″.

There may be inadequate clearance around the valve or pipe fittings/elbows that may prevent proper mounting of the Water Shutoff.

  1. Check for adequate clearance around the valve as follows:
    ½” – 1 ¼” valve – 5.5” x 6” x 3.0” (HxLxW)
    1 ½”- 2” valve – 6.5” x 8” x 3.5” (HxLxW)
  2. Additionally, pipe fitting or elbows may prevent the water shutoff from clamp onto the valve/pipe. In these scenarios, try adjusting the clamps by moving them left or right

To modify the shutoff device to support larger pipe sizes (e.g. >1 ¼” in diameter), refer to the adapter kit instructions.

  1. Confirm power at the wall outlet
  2. Check that the power supply cable is properly connected to the power adapter.

Check that the leak probe is firmly connected to the auxiliary port.

Check for damage or cuts on the leak probe cable. If the cable is damage or cut, please reach out to Sensor Support (sensorsupport@hsb.com or (844) 468-1866 – Monday to Friday, 8am – 8pm Eastern Time) and request a replacement probe.

Leak probe needs to be completely dry as small amounts of water will continue to trigger the leak alarm.

  • Disconnect the leak probe and completely dry out the leak probe
  • Reconnect the leak probe to the auxiliary port

Water Shutoff does not have power.

  • Check for power at wall outlet
  • Check power supply cable is properly connected to the power adapter Please check wall outlet has power and power supply cable is properly connected to the power adapter

The LED light will blink yellow when the Water Shutoff is unable to connect to the gateway. This may be due to gateway losing power or signal connection to the gateway is lost.

  1. Check gateway power status
  2. If necessary, move gateway to a location closer to the water shutoff for improved signal connectivity.
(Note: It may take up to 15 minutes for the gateway connection to confirm)

LED button lock is enabled and will not respond to LED button press commands.

Disable the LED button lock by:

  1. Press and hold the LED button for 3 seconds
  2. Press the LED button 3 times
  1. Press and hold the LED button for 5 beeps, then quickly press the button 5 times in a row
  2. Allow Water Shutoff to complete the full calibration cycle

Water Shutoff has encountered an obstruction and could not completely open/close the valve. Water Shutoff requires manual recalibration.

  1. Press and hold the LED button for 5 beeps, then quickly press the button 5 times in a row
  2. Allow Water Shutoff to complete the full calibration cycle

Water Shutoff requires manual recalibration.

The water valve may be defective and requires replacement.

  1. Power off and uninstall the Water Shutoff
  2. Check/inspect for ball valve failures.

Note: Water Shutoff requires ball valve in good working condition to operate properly.

On rare occasions, a location may have a shutoff valve that has an ultra low profile, where the valve handle is too low for the spring-loaded fork for proper installation of the water shutoff.

In this situation, please use the white, circular plastic ring (spacer) which is designed to fit between the hex bolt head of the valve and the water shutoff fork.  The spacer will create adequate space for the water shutoff fork to properly mount and engage the valve handle.

  1. The smartphone or mobile device may be offline.

    1. Check connection status of smartphone or mobile device
    2. Exit out and re-login to the Meshify Protect app
